Designing a digital flyer for Anschutz Medical School in Aurora, Colorado was an exciting challenge, blending a youthful appeal with the seriousness of medical discourse. The primary objective was to create a vibrant and engaging visual that would resonate with medical students and anyone interested in the field.
It all started with giving the event a catchy name, and after much contemplation, "Doc Talk" or "Dr. Talk" emerged as fitting choices. Both names encapsulated the essence of the event, whether interpreted as a colloquial discussion among medical professionals or an invitation for a dialogue with a doctor. In terms of color scheme, departing from the traditional gold, silver, and black associated with CU, I thought for a palette that exuded youthful energy. Peach, orange, brown, green, and mint were chosen to inject vibrancy while maintaining a sense of professionalism. These colors not only added a playful touch but also ensured the flyer stood out amidst the sea of conventional medical-themed designs.
Selecting the right fonts was crucial to strike the balance between fun and readability. After careful consideration, "Smooth" and "Smoother" emerged as ideal choices. With their rounded edges, these fonts conveyed a friendly vibe while ensuring the text remained clear and legible.
To visually enhance the text, speech bubbles were incorporated, drawing inspiration from iMessage speech bubbles for their dynamic movement. Each bubble was designed to mimic the fluidity of conversation, with varying saturations to create depth and visual interest.
Given that the flyer would primarily be disseminated on social media platforms, optimizing it for digital viewing was imperative. Thus, it was exported in both 4:5 and 9:16 aspect ratios to ensure compatibility across various social media channels, maximizing its reach and impact.
In the end, the digital flyer successfully achieved its objective of marrying a fun and youthful aesthetic with the gravity of medical discourse, effectively capturing the attention of its target audience and generating excitement for the upcoming event at Anschutz Medical School.
